This miracle had an interesting history...

In the latter half of the twentieth century, Rashad Khalifa, an Egyptian Ph.D. Chemist on the roster of scientists with UNIDO, Vienna, turned towards the Message, and like millions of other followers, began studying its interpretation by various experts. Dissatisfied by the exegesis available, he decided to translate and interpret the Message himself...

As he began his work, he came upon the famous mystic alphabets prefixed to several chapters of Message...

A.L.M.                                                                                                             [3:1]

God! There is no God but He, - the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal.[3:2]

The alphabets intrigued him. No one seemed to know their meaning or significance. Whatever records or traditions he searched, he met a dead end, although the companions of Messenger had preserved each and every trivial detail pertaining to him, in the traditions. In comparison to this exhaustive data, the shroud of mystery wrapping these alphabets was bizarre. On an impulse, Rashad Khalifa decided to see whether or not any mathematical correlation existed in the text of Message.

Using a time share terminal through phone lines, he entered the Message into a giant computer and began analyzing the data...

The results staggered him. The computer data from the very beginning started revealing an overwhelmingly intricate super-human structure hidden in the Message. The deeper he dwelled into this phenomenon the more complex it became. The structure seemed to pervade everywhere, mathematically coding its chapters, verses, words, number of certain alphabets, number of words from the same root, number and variety of divine names, unique spelling of certain words, absence or alteration of certain alphabets within certain words and many other elements besides its content, all on a 19 based system....

This formidable structure emerging out of a fourteen centuries old text was indubitably the first genuine miracle of modern age. A miracle that anyone, anywhere, in the world could witness with the help of the computer.

The mathematical miracle comprised of two basic components:

Ø      An immensely complex structure involving the basic literary composition of Message.

Ø      And another equally complex structure incorporating a numerical relationships between the chapters and verses of Message.

PART I - MIRACLE IN THE LITERARY COMPOSITION OF MESSAGE.

The Miracle, residing in the literary composition of Message had two further sub-divisions:

Ø      A smaller, intricate structure residing exclusively in chapters with mystic alphabets only.

Ø      A second larger structure, less intricate but encompassing the entire text.

Mathematical structure in chapters with mysterious alphabets:

1. The first peculiarity of these puzzling alphabets[1] was that only fourteen alphabets from the Arabic language...

“A”[Alif]; “L”[Laam]; “M”[Mim]; “S”[Saad]; “R”[Ra]; “K”[Kaf]; “H”[Ha]; “Y”[Ya]; `A”[`Ayn]; “T”[Ta]; “S”[Seen]; “H”[He]; “Q”[Qaf]; “N”[Nun] ...had been used in the text of Message, forming fourteen sets of these alphabets... A.L.M.; A.L.M.S.; A.L.R.; A.L.M.R.; K.H.Y.A.S.; T.H.; T.S.M.; Y.S.; S.; H.M.; H.M.A.S.Q.; Q.; N.

And these 14 sets were prefixed to only 29 chapters of Message...

The sum of all these figures came to 29+14+14=57 or 19x3.

2. Three of these sets consisted of only one alphabet each `Q’, S(Saad), and Nun. Taking each of these sets individually, Rashad Khalifa discovered that the number of occurrence of the alphabet Q in chapter 50, that was not only initialled with the alphabet Q, but also bore the title of Q, came to 57 or 19x3.

3. The only other chapter which had this initial Q in combination with other alphabets, namely chapter 42, also contained the same number of Q’s (57), though it was more than twice as long as chapter 50.

4. The total of the aforesaid incidence of Q’s in the two Q-initialed chapters (57+57) came to 114 [19x6], a number that was also equal to the total number of chapters of the “Message”. Interestingly enough, the initial Q also stood for the name of the Message in Arabic, i.e., “Quran”.

5. Chapter 42 also contained 53 verses. The sum of these two numbers, i.e., 42+53 came to 95, a multiple of 19 [19x5].

6. Chapter 50 consisted of 45 verses. The sum of these two numbers was also 95, a multiple of 19.

7. When the numbers assigned to the verses, where the alphabet Q had occurred, in the Q-initialled and the Q-named chapter 50, were totalled, the figure came to 798 or 19x42. This figure was striking since the other Q-initialled chapter was also numbered 42.

8. This phenomenon also provided evidence of deliberate introduction of several alphabets in the text to conform to this miracle. For example, the people who had disbelieved in Lot had been mentioned in the Message thirteen times. In twelve such references 7:80; 11:70,74,89; 21:74; 22:43; 26:160; 27:54,56; 29:28; 38:13 and 54:33 these people had been called consistently as Qawm Lut or `people of Lot’, but in the thirteenth Q-initialled sura 50:13 they were referred as Ikhwaane Lut or `Brethren of Lot’. Obviously if the word Qaum had been used, the additional Q would have destroyed the mathematical structure.

9. The other single initial “S” [Saad] was found at the beginning of three chapters, 7, 19 and 38. When the alphabet “S” [Saad] was counted in these three chapters, the total came to 152, or 19x8.

10. The case of “S” [Saad] also provided the evidence of deliberate deployment of alphabets in the text to conform to this miracle. As per the traditions, when the scribes were writing the word “Bastatan” in 7:69, the messenger told them to write it with a Seen, instead of Saad, the correct alphabet. The later scribes faithfully misspelled the word Bastatan, in copies after copies, down the centuries, writing it with a Seen instead of a Saad. Had some smart scribe corrected this mistake with all good intentions, the miracle would have vanished forever, as initials in this case had interlocking relationship too.

2-lettered sets of initials:

11. The set of initials “Y.S.”[Ya Seen] was found at the beginning of chapter 36. The total count of two alphabets “Y” [Yaa’] and “S” [Seen] in this chapter came to 285, or 19x15.

To understand the intricacy of this system, knowledge of two more facts were important:

11.1 “Y” and “S”, the two alphabets had occurred in every single verse of chapter 36. Any addition, omission or an alteration of even a single “Y” or “S” would have utterly demolished the numerical structure.

11.2 The peculiarity of alphabet “Y” was that it had been written in Quran in two forms: one was obvious and the other subtle. The subtle form of alphabet might have confused those who were not familiar with this language, such as, the word Araany in verse 36 of chapter 12. Surprisingly, in this fairly long sura 36, not a single “Y” of the subtle type had been used.

12. The initials “H.M.” [Haa Meem]: Seven consecutive chapters (40 through 46) were initialled with these two alphabets. Total occurrence of these two initials in these suras also came to be a multiple of 19:

3-lettered sets of initials:

13. The initials A.S.Q. [Ayn, Seen, Qaf]: These initials formed verse 2 of chapter 42. Counting these alphabets in this chapter, the total came to be a multiple of 19:

The alphabet “A”[Ayn] was found to occur 98 times, the alphabet “S”[Seen] 54 times and the alphabet “Q”[Qaf] 57 times.

The total count came to 98 + 54 + 57 = 209, or 19x11.

14. The initials A.L.M. [Alef, Laam, Mim]: These alphabets prefixed before six chapters were known to be the most frequently used alphabets of Arabic language in this order. The total occurrence of three alphabets, in each of these six chapters, came to be a multiple of 19.

Thus any alteration of even one alphabet, in the total occurrence of three alphabets in these six chapters, would have destroyed this unique phenomenon.

15. The initials A.L.R. [Alef, Laam and Ra]: This 3-alphabet set was found prefixed to five chapters 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15. The total count of these alphabets, in each of these chapters, also came to be a multiple of 19:

4-lettered sets of initials:

16. The initials A.L.M.R. [Alef, Laam, Mim, Ra]: This combination of alphabets prefixed only one chapter, No. 13, and the total count of four alphabets in this chapter, was a multiple of 19:

18. Surprisingly the alphabet “S”, was one of the alphabets prefixing chapters 19 and 38 too. Total count of this alphabet from all three chapters, also came to be a multiple of “19.

This highly complex phenomenon of interlocking and intertwining relationship in the Message was not unique to this alphabet alone.

19. An intricate interlocking relationship, also existed in the initials H. T.H. [Ta Ha], T.S. [Ta Seen] & T.S.M.[Ta Seen, Mim], producing a total that was also a multiple of 19. The data was as follows:

5-lettered set of initials:

20. The initials K.H.Y.`A.S.[Kaf, Ha, Ya, `Ayn, Saad]: This was the longest set of initials, consisting of five alphabets, and it occurred in one chapter, chapter 19. Here too the total count came to be a multiple of 19.

An interesting thing about this phenomenon was that the longer, more complex, interlocking and overlapping initials were found in those chapters, where uncommonly powerful miracles were narrated. For example the virgin birth of Jesus was given in this chapter 19, prefixed with the longest set of initials. Moreover, the interlocking initials “H.”, T.H.”, “T.S.” and “T.S.M.” prefixed those chapters that described the miracles of Moses, Jesus, and the uncommon occurrences surrounding Solomon and his jinns. The Message thus seemed to provide, stronger evidence to support unusual happenings.

21. In the unfolding of this miracle a unique case of Nun or N was observed. This sole initial occurred only in one chapter, 68. The count of “N” as a single alphabet showed that it was one short of being a multiple of 19. This apparent anomaly disappeared if the alphabet “N” was spelled as Nun Wau Nun in its generic form. The consistently uniform mathematical structure thus suggested that the name of the alphabet Nun in the original text must have been spelled as three alphabets Nun Wau Nun instead of a single Nun.

OTHER MATHEMATICAL PROPERTIES OF THE INITIALLED CHAPTERS

There were a number of other striking features:

Fourteen hundred years ago, when the Message was revealed, the numerals as we know them today were not in existence. The alphabets themselves doubled as numerals and this value was known as gemmatrical value of alphabets. All alphabets of the ancient languages Arabic, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic etc., had their numerical values…
